New IIMs

Indian education system is undergoing sea changes and these changes are all positive with some exceptions. New IIMs and IITs are coming by mercy of NAMO and keen vigilance of MHRD. I am, currently, doing my Ph. D. from IIM Lucknow and researching a lot for my research topic. This blog is about new IIMs anounced in budget 2014. Establishing new IIMs and bringing them on level at par with existing is not an easy task. This step could lead in dilution of brand of IIMs globally. If any student of any IIM goes abroad and says I am a graduate from IIM, it conveys that he/she is amongst the best students of India, Which means IIM is a brand that shows the excellence of country. IIMs are taking students through a rigorous process and the number of seats are limited. If number of IIMs are increased and more students are taken, then measures should be taken to maintain the standards of THE IIM, Otherwise new IIMs would remain a strategic political gimmick. As we all know that a coin has two sides. The pros of new IIMs would be to produce more management professionals, more opportunities and more happiness. On the flip side, the cons might be more competition for placement, more frustration and worst of all the IIM prestige might be diluted.
